    That was a hell of a piece of equipment back then. Cost more than the model 4 itself. Nice to see one in working condition.

    Agreed on the TRS80 model 1. It was a ground breaking budget computer for the masses at its particular time. It was quickly superseded by the C64 as the budget computer of choice; but shortly afterwards, RadioShack did it again. Their incredible Tandy 1000 series beat the hell out of IBM and all the other XT clones offering so much more for much less money; and helped many people get their foot into the door of x86. RS deserves their lauded place in the history of the personal computer.

    How did you test the hard sector floppy drives using a soft sector PC controller? Or are they not hard sector drives? Normally, for example, the H89 or H8 had the H17 hard sector drive setup.

      Internal pressure in the capacitor, improperly contained. Caps have that little X on them so that it can "vent" out the top, but this one didn't work. Probably a manufacturing defect.

    Helpful video, as I am tackling my neighbors dodge. I would add that I always add anti seize to the back of the rotors and all the bolts. I'm always careful to not overuse the anti seize so none gets on the rotor or pads. But it sure helps the next guy who may be working on the brakes. I use a weighted rubber hammer for any "adjustments" as well.

    I watched part I of your video as well. Very complete job on telling us all how you went from point A to point Z to bring this weather station back to life! One suggestion... Once you have the display unit when you want it and it is all working the way it should, do a 5 to 10 minute video of the entire display to show how it's working. Plus there are those of us who geek out on those types of videos! Thanks!!

      They are getting more rare, not as much as the Models' 12 and 16. I think 2 years ago I paid around $350 AFTER shipping and felt lucky, especially because of the almost new condition of the keyboard, that's rare. It needed a fair amount work of course. The shipping gets you though because this thing is heavy, so watch that if you're looking, It could add $100.

    Weird wind direction sensor, I used to work on several kinds of industrial weather sensors and the RM young brand ones were magnetic, the climatronics brand used a pot and just delivered a voltage. The best were the all ultrasonic ones, no moving parts... All were hooked up to a ESC data logger with a MET card. THe only hard part about working on them was climbing up the tower, some were 100 meter up.

    • @BuckeyeWX43832
      @BuckeyeWX43832 4 місяці тому

      I have one of these weather stations, fully functional. Nothing "weird" about the sensor in my opinion. It's a Heathkit. These are work horses if you keep them in good condition and know how to, or know someone, who can work on them. Why did you have wind sensors 100 meters up?

    I wonder if I can find that program (T-Type?) on WoS (World of Spectrum)? Also, there's a shortcut to tape loading - just use LOAD " " - it's 2 of the double quotes, with no space in between. I put in the space, so you can see it's 2 actual quotes. :) Cool video, and would you mind posting the names of the programs on the included cassette? There might be a way to revitalize what's there, but it would require some emulation and re-digitizing. I also have a TS-2068, and I have at least one emulator that I can coax into making tape files "audible" again. The cool thing about the TS and Spectrum was that the tape format is essentially identical so you can load most Spectrum programs (without machine code) into the 2068, and - as a bonus, if you had UPLOAD2000, you could convert some TS-1000 or ZX-81 stuff as well. I just hope I can find my copy of the "upload" program before bit-rot sets in ! lol Thank you so much for the history lesson and the added backgrounder on the machine that I'm so fond of, even to this day. This (still in original dust cover), as well as the disk expansion unit with two drives in it (neatly boxed), a DMP-400 printer (with dust cover), boxes of original manuals, disks, and books (still haven't gone through them all), and even a Compaq Portable were headed to the trash pile! There is no room in my Accord for anyone but the driver right now, and I am looking forward to going through all of it this weekend. I'm hoping since it was all stored properly and in a climate-controlled environment that it should still be in good condition. 🤞

    • @drueking
      @drueking 7 місяців тому

      Actually I did now that I think of it. It wouldn’t hurt to disassemble it. I still use some of my original cameras and took apart one a couple of months ago. Although it still kept the moisture out well, there was corrosion on some contacts and at some SMD capacitors. I took it apart and gave a good scrubbing with white vinegar at some points and topped it off with a little de-ox, which helps to keep the corrosion at bay and it worked for me. Of course on this one it was more than the power supply, but the supplies can fool you by lighting the ir leds but then fails when trying to boot the network board for the camera.
